Biography
Alan Earhart is a highly skilled martial arts instructor. He began his taekwondo training in 1994 with Hilliard Martial Arts Society in Columbus, OH, eventually earning a 1st Dan in the UMBA system. After a hiatus, Alan returned to martial arts in 2014 with Swanson’s Martial Arts, where he has trained in both Taekwondo and Combat Hapkido. He currently holds a 3rd Dan in Taekwondo and a 2nd Dan in Combat Hapkido.
Alan originally started training in martial arts because of encouragement from a friend who was already a black belt. He restarted his training at Swanson’s Martial Arts after his youngest child decided to start and he couldn’t resist the opportunity to participate himself. Alan enjoys teaching martial arts because of the opportunity to watch his students grow and mature over the years, becoming more confident as they progress.
One of Alan’s favorite stories about teaching is about a student who was very tentative and shy when they first started. With the help of the instructors and other students, this student has made great progress in just a few months, demonstrating that martial arts is truly for everyone. Alan believes in the power of positive reinforcement and the importance of starting with something positive to set students up for success and allow them to receive corrective feedback more effectively.
